The screw in the hinge which is loose will not tighten nor will it loosen. It turns but the gap between the hinge and the porcelain nether increases nor decreases. I have a new toggle ready to be fitted but I am stymied because I cannot remove the old toggle. I have tried using both Phillips screwdriver and a spanner. Any ideas please ?

hacksaw them off and and replace them , you can take the blade off and use a Tea towel rapped around the blade to hold it as you cut,
