Hotpoint Goes for a walk?

Hotpoint washing machine WF340
Set level goes walkabouts when on short spins which are supposed to correct an unbalanced load. Jumps about like a thing possesed ending 8" out from under open area work top. Tells you in book if the short spin 'balance' load does not work at end of cycle redistribute clothes then do a spin. User or machine?. Someone said it could be a balance shock spring broken way from the balance weights. Its insured but if they are called and find nothing wrong even though it tries to head for next doors utility room then I get charged call out.
Many thanks for reading and advice if any

Some things you can try, open back panel and inspect drive belt, move big wheel / pulley and see if there is not to much play, look on sides under drum to see if shock mounts are secure and more or less same lenght, remove top and check if balance weight is secure also springs on top of drum
