how can I get my electric to stop tripping?

My electric tripped, now only the sockets work. when i put the fuse in for the lights it trips, sometimes straightp away and sometimes after a good few hours why would this happen?

Stop messing about with it. There is a dead short and it is dangerous. Don`t try to use it, it is tripping because it is dangerous. The trip is doing it`s job and saving your life. Alternatively keep forcing the trip until it burns out and then go to bed and burn alive. CALL AN ELECTRICIAN

Have you got outside lights? the fault you describe has the hallmark of water somewhere, or is anywhere damp?

There will be a fault somewhere on the lighting circuit - a good electrician will be able to solve the problem for you.

It may well be a stray wire or damaged insulation in a fixture - sometimes touching where it should not and sometimes not touching. An electrician will have techniques and test equipment to narrow down the problem relatively quickly.

Good luck..., July 2015
