How do I fix my Fisher & Paykel GW709au?

This washing machine has been out of use for about 18 mths.
I finally decided to have a go at fixing it and replaced the shaft, bearings and seal. In doing so I disconnected the pressure tube at the control board end. To test it I filled it with water from the hose and on pressing Start for a Cold Wash got the message "Sensing Water Level". No error code. On changing to manual water level I get a beep and nothing more. Advancing to Spin or Rinse does nothing either. The pressure tube has an internal nylon cord. Should the end of this cord enter the control module when the tube is in place?
The bowl was empty when I reconnected the pressure tube.
All other components seem to go into place OK.
Any advice please

Ok that looks like the answer to the problem. Machine will not rotate & fill or drain & spin when it thinks the lid is open. It will agitate and wash with the lid open once the correct water level is reached. Replace the lid reed switch.

Hello again and thanks for your continued assistance.

I managed to get the Special function on the Display Module fixed by a local electronics guy and I am now able to get into the Diagnostics Mode with the following results:

Fault Status:
Fault Code 50
460 cycles ago at progress SPIN

Machine Status
Thermister T - 18 deg C
Size 7 OOB off
WL: 63 (or 64) Lid: open (when it is closed)

Warning Status
Out of Balance
7 cycles ago at progress SPIN

I've played around with the Lid switch but it still shows as open. I'll buy a new one and see what happens.
I'm pretty sure I've put everything back together properly.

Regards

Thanks again.

I am in Queensland, Australia, just North of Brisbane.

I'd be quite prepared to pay, within reason, to have it fixed in NZ if there are no repairers locally.

Could a faulty "Special" switch on the display module be the cause of the failure of the other functions such as wash and rinse and spin etc.?

I don't know of any PCB repairers in Australia. You could phone your local appliance repair shop & ask if they know of anyone who could test & repair the control boards. Take the display PCB & the main control PCB so they can test both. But as I suggested it could be something you have done or plugged back in wrong. Double check all that first.

No the special switch should not cause the machine to not start. I suspect maybe a faulty lid switch or out of balance switch or maybe you have put something back together wrong. Fixing the switch is only going to enable you to enter diagnostic mode to check the lid & out of balance switches easily. You could go round & round and spend heaps of unnecessary money searching for the answer. I think you would be better off calling someone out, explain to them what you have done so far & let them test it. They should have spare boards so they can swap & test easily.

Yes it may be possible to replace the switch on the display. There are a number of businesses that repair F&P modules. Where are you?

Thank you for your suggestion about Diagnostic Mode.
I cannot enter this mode. When I press the Special button and then the Power button I get a rapid double beep but the screen doesn't go blank it reverts to Ready To Wash.

I suspect that the Special button isn't functioning as it does nothing when pressed from any stage.

When I set the water level manually and press Start the machine tells me its "ready to wash" with a number of minutes to go but does nothing on pressing Start

If the Special function is U/S can the display module be repaired? I believe that component is no longer available.

You get a beep so that means the start switch is ok. Sounds like either a lid switch or out of balance switch may be faulty. Suggest you enter diagnostic display & check lid shows closed & then open when you open lid and out of balance should be off.
4.0 DIAGNOSTIC MODE
The DIAGNOSTIC MODE in the Intuitive Washer incorporates both the switch test mode, tests for the drain pump and the water valves, and also the data display mode.
To enter the DIAGNOSTIC MODE, turn the power on at the power point and off at the console. Press and hold the SPECIAL button and then the POWER button.
The machine will give 2 short beeps and the LCD screen will go blank.
Note: Make sure that the buttons are released after the beeps, or the machine will turn
itself out of the diagnostic mode.
There are two sections to the diagnostic mode, Data Display and Control Option.
4.1 DATA DISPLAY
To enter the DATA DISPLAY screens, push the SPECIAL button again. This will enable
the lid switch and the out of balance switch to be tested, as well as giving access to the
Detailed Fault Codes and User Warning Faults. One of 3 displays will be appear in the screen. Use the buttons to the right of the display screen to toggle between these displays.
The Warning Status screen will display the last USER WARNING FAULT that occurred and will show at what part of the cycle it occurred.

Thanks for your response.
My F & P is actually an IW709au

When I put it on spin and press start I get a small beep but there is no blinking light and the drain pump doesn't start.

PeterB, August 2015
If you put it on spin & press start what happens? You should get a small beep, light on top row will stop blinking & the drain pump should start. Does it do any of those at all?
