Why does digital display state is -21 when infact its warm inside both ?

Hi, i actually work for a repair company and we are struggling to understand whats up with my fridge its an american LG gs5163 and is not working in both fridge or freezer the compressor is running not over heating ,so must be gas in the system, but the digital display shows - 20 or what ever you select it to which isnt the correct temp inside clearly as its warm, was delivered lying down could this be a factor???? but im thinking its got to be a sensor fault as why cant it read that the freezer isnt cold??? also no error codes are coming up so cant even narrow it down so its very akward fault, hope someone can help.

I agree, sensor fault - or possibly the input electronics on th econtrol board. If you can disconnect the sensor then a quick check with a DVM would allow you to check it is erponding to temperature and maybe using a pot or a decade box set to something like the right value, used as a dummy sensor, would let you check the control board is "seeing " the correct temperature.

Thinking more, assuming its an NTC sensor (increasing resistance with cold) it could even just be a disconnected sensor - unplugged or a cut wire. .

Leave it upright for 24 hours then turn it on.

it could be that the -21 is the aiming temperature and not the actual temperature - like when you set an oven to do baking

Remember too that European Fridges get set to a centigrade figure -18 C and about +5C

In the USA it's Fahrenheit 0 degrees F and 35 F

Unlikely to be a sensor fault because both fridge and freezer are warm.

But I'm just guessing

Good Luck..., August 2015
