grandfather clock wiring to chimes came undone?

in my (dakota?) grandfather clock there is a tiny (red plastic covered) wire that goes into a small piece of soldering to connect it to another same small wire that goes to the section that produces the chimes. This wire came out. I can't get it to go back into the tiny hole in the small piece of soldering and I tried connecting the two wires with electrical tape but the batteries got super hot so I took them out. Can anyone out there help? I miss the chimes.
