how can I tell which is the suppressor on the 513 Singer ?

Hi, I also have a foot pedal which starts off on its own & then smokes on my singer sewing machine 513. The pedal is no. 103435-009. Is the suppressor you suggest throwing away the very small component with stripes in green, brown & orange, or is it the oblong shaped component marked 250V-MP. Both are wired in together between the positive & negative mains input .

It's a capacitor - the component that does the interference suppression - the one with the stripes will be a resistor.

The units of capacitance are Micro Farads usually written ufd on the component and there will also be a voltage rating - use Google - select Images - enter sewing machine capacitor
