Bosh WFF 2001 stops after water input?

Machine is about 6 years old - first real problem. This morning put on a wash cycle, water flows, clicks are heard (probably solenoids or whatever) but nothing else. Just sits there with the main wash, short wash & start lights on (no flashing). Turn it to one of the drain cycles and the water is pumped out but the drum does not spin. Have removed the top and all electrical/water connections are secure, the belt is OK and no sign of any other problems. The only previous hint of something odd was that towards the end of a wash cycle the would be a slight grating noise which I thought might have been the pump impeller rubbing - but I guess not. Could it be the motor? The drum rotates freely enough.
Can't remove the back as yet as I don't have a star driver.

Phil I think you are right mate! Thank you. I just removed them and there is about 1/4 inch left on one and the other is worn down to the spring connector
