fan motor is not moving enough air through the heater/air discharge is weak?

I have a Robinson Willey Warmplan XX Auto gas fan heater (actually I have several in my flat), which are excellent for heating large rooms quickly & effectively. So when the fan 'runs out of guts', its noticeable how much longer it takes to warm the room, even allowing for the colder days). I've seen spare fan-motor assemblies for c. £146 + VAT on line, but is there a better, cheaper alternative?

The fan motor will be synchronous - no brushes - the chances are that the bearings are gummed up with fluff. You might consider accessing the blower assembly and giving it a squirt of light oil WD40 perhaps.

A fan motor assembly for £146 is robbery - you can buy an electric fan heater for under £20 - case - blower and element combined. WD40 will cost you about £6 saving £140...
