Fit a VW beta radio into 1999 merc sprinter 208d?

I have a 1999 merc/sprinter van,I have VW Blaupunkt
BETA radio and want to fit it into van,Terminal blocks look the same and fit the radio with side light on the radio lights up but not the panel to allow you to put code in. Are the plugs wired differently.
HELP please.
