to fix a leak under the pan when flushing?

how to fix a leak which comes from "GALA" brand cistern & pan" when flushing any of the dual button. The pan is fitted wall to wall & the leak comes from the rim of the pan immediately after it is flushed. It is NOT likely that it is from the waste pipe leading out tom the soil pipe.It has got something to do with flushing mechanism but why underthe rim of the PAN!.Please help with an idea

Just one small question to finish off
Forgot to mention that the leak is NOT continues although the tank is full of water BUT, the leak starts after a few seconds after the dual button on the top is pressed to exercise flushing. The leak only last for a little while & stops.A quarter of a cup of water comes out from the bottom of the rim which is very annoying. The PAN & CYSTERN is only 6 months old so there is little or NO wear & tear. The system is of premium quality worth around £420.Do you still think I should with the same procedure as indicated by you!.Please advise. Many thanks.

On a close coupled system where the cistern sits on top of the pan at the back is a common place for a leak.

It's a low pressure seal between the two formed by a squidgy washer in the shape of a doughnut - a metal plate applies pressure to it and two wingnuts at the back - one each side apply pressure to the metal plate and squeeze the soft washer.

You can sometimes cure a leak here by tightening the wing nuts.

If that doesn't work then fit a replacement washer - this requires the cistern to be lifted from the pan.

Good Luck..., July 2016
