I know nothing of cars... just a bit about electricity.
The ignition switch will have three positions Off / On / Starter
There will probably be three wires
12V Power coming in
12V Power going out to make the various circuits come live through relays
12V Power directly to the starter solenoid (relay)
A small multimeter will be of great help to you.
