The motor wasn't starting before he stripped the pump either so there may be nothing wrong with the pump itself as long as there is no air in it and is primed with fuel, pumps are very complex and with very fine tolerances so if there is any doubt would get it sent off to a specialist for overhaul,make sure heater plugs are ok and maybe try a small amount of easy start,if it tries to fire then you kind of know your problem is fuel related,make sure your filter is clean and also no air is in your system.
