Kitchen mixing machines often have a safety interlock to prevent operation unless all the pieces are correctly fitted - sometimes the piece that operates the interlock switch gets damaged and the unit stops working - look to see where the interlock button is on your mixer - press on it with a blunt object like a pencil.
Lack of smoke and smell suggests the motor is still good.
