8 years old shouldn't be too bad.
What model TV?
Is the satellite (or saterlitte if you must) tuner built-in or is it separate (a set-top box)?
Could be the LNB on the dish has failed. Could be a cable dislodged. Could even be the dish has moved (especially given the amount of wind in some places recently) or could be something in the beam path.
