What is the common cause for this

The handle has a square rod on the end of it and it fits into a plastic bit with a square hole in it and a screw to tighten it all together,it is a very sloppy bit of kit,take the cistern lid off and see if the screw is loose/there,it is not to hard to sus.Good luck.
