MIRA SPORT 10.8kw SHOWER Cool Water and Circuit Tripping?

We have the 10.8kw Mira Sport that went wrong yesterday. It stopped suddenly (with no prior change in temperature or flow) and caused RCD to trip out in the fuse box. Turned power back on and tried again. Shower remained cool at normal setting so turned the dial. Temperature increased slightly then circuit tripped again.

I suspect the fault lies with the Heater Tank or the Thermal Switch. Does anyone have experience of this and know which part I should replace? The Heater Tank is a lot more expensive than the switch but I don’t want to have to take it apart more than once! Help pin pointing the problem would be most welcome.

The shower now works again! Two improvements made: first I fitted a new 45 amp rocker switch to the wall on the landing as the original one did not seem to click over properly when I turned it off; and secondly I have now fitted a new Heater Tank.

It is my belief that the new heater fixed the problem. Anyone doing likewise should note that the terminals on top of the tank have been rearranged from the layout on earlier models. This means that the connections that were at the front are now at the back! Proceed carefully and follow the instructions that come with the new tank rather than the old ones that came with the shower.

To repair one of these you will need a Torx T10 screw driver!

I have finally fitted a new Thermal Switch. On testing the shower worked on the Low setting but when I pressed the Medium button it tripped the RCD again. Clearly it was not the switch!

Next I plan to try a new Heater Tank. Stand by for the next instalment. Any other ideas? Please let me know.

it sounds more like the thermal switch they trip the rcd. but the heating element very rare play around they work or they don't
