You're lucky you didn't cause a large fire. Refrigeration is based on pentane now that inert flourocarbons have been outlawed.
Depending on where the leak was in the refrigeration circuit, you could be dealing with significant pressures, which is why joints are brazed, not soft soldered or epoxied.
You would be MUCH better advised either getting a new fridge or a professional repair.
