My hard drive in my samsung vm8000 crashed and I replaced the Hitachi travelstar 20GB with 40GB but when I load windows xp and it gets the create partition area it shows message: An error occurred while setup was updating partition information on 38155mb Disk 0 at ID 0 on Bus atapi (MBR) Setup cannot continue to quit setup press f3. Can anyone help please !!!!

Agree with the second bit of the first answer. Start your PC in setup mode and check the BIOS settings. (Format can only happen after a partition is created.)

Have you formatted the drive first, and made sure the settings are correct in the bios?
