i want to install an extractor in my bathroom?

how do install a extactor so it comes on when the light is switched on

if the fan has a run on timer, you will have to pick up a permanent live/switched live/neutral/and earth if fan is not double insulated, this will normally be taken from the bathroom ceiling rose The fan will need a means of isolation to comply with regulations ,so a triple pole switch will be required in line with the wiring breaking all live and neutral conductors when operated, this can be a pull switch installed in the bathroom ,or a wall mounted switch mounted outside the bathroom usually over the door. Any doubt get a good Spark.

bring a 3 core 1.5 cable or flex from your bathroom light fitting, add a sunken metal or plastic surface socket box near to the fan location , and add in the cable or flex , run another flex to the fan from the box,you should now have two cables at the box, 1 from the fan and 1 from the light. fit a 13amp spur unit to the box , take out the 13 amp fuse and fit in a 2 amp fuse. connect up the fan and fit its cover, then connect up the spur unit. with the power off connect up the cable at the light , neutral to existing neutral bar and same with earth , connect the live into the lights switchwire , then power back on and away you go.

That is not correct and almost certainly not ilegal to do DIY in the UK.

simply connect the live feed (red or brown)from the extractor to the switched live in the light fitting ( brown wire ).
