How can I stop my Harman/Kardon CD player jumping tracks?

When I play a CD it keeps jumping back to the start of the track playing. I have tried changing to another track and it happens again. I have tried various CD's all to no avail. The CD's play all right in other machines. Help!

Hi Alan,
Whenever a CD player skips or jumps it is usually due to either a problem with the laser, a problem with the mechanical parts that move the laser or spin the disc. As a consumer your first step should be to use a 'lens cleaner' disc ( preferably non-abrasive ) with some solution which is usually supplied. Unless you want to get the lid off your equipment this is about as far as you can go. If this has no effect then it's time to call the repair man. Perhaps it would not be appropriate to detail other solutions here that may involve opening a case containing mains voltages.
