Whirlpool awm8123 fault code FP?

Fault code FP keeps appearing on my whirlpool awm8123, what does it mean?
Micky b, January 2007
wow thank u all so much! my machine was showing fp code and the wash cycle was taking much longer than usual. I cleaned the pump and filter but it made no difference. then, something I would never dared attempt before,i removed the black pipe and found it clogged with fluff, a 1p coin and a hairclip...running like a dream now! and didn't cost a penny!! so happy!

sarah, October 2014
well, after i disconected the hose from the drum, i found a baby sock there. Now it works fine.

We had the error code FP, on our Whirlpool Awm 6125/3, so after reading some of the fixes on here, I pulled the front filter, with lots of force, as it wouldnt come out, and the filter, had hairgrips, tree pine needles, a metal nail, hair and debree, and smelt like drains.....I pulled it all out with a pair of tweezers, and washed it, put it back, and it worked!!!!!!
Fantastic thanks, saved us from buying a new washing machine.....

Totally helped! Undid the front bit and opened the pump and bleurgh! Tons of cat, dog and my own hair all bunched up in a ball. Got rid of it and now the machine is buzzing along nicely!

Amasing, this tipp saved me 600€. Big thank you from Germany! After turning the machine around and removing the black pipe I could remove an unbalivable amount of dirt and now the machine seems as good as new.

From now on my ladies call me handydandoed and I get the respect i deserve!

Thank you all for the tips. I've checked the filter and found dirt and socks. Cleaned and now my OWA 9561.

Believe it or not, the outlet hose was blocked with ICICLES! Hole in the wall where the old tumble dryer used to sit, and with the recent cold spell.. Cleared it, cleaned it, sat here watching it..

Hi did all the usual checked filter, that was fine. Took black bendy pipe off with machine upside down that was full of coins and a large white plastic ball. Removed these put machine backj together switched water on and now it empties but now says FH. but the water supply is on. HELPPPPPP

I had the same problem on Whirlpool AWO 3555, it kept saying FP and -p-. I had an error before where it flooded the room, it was the filter in front which had a string from some trousers in it. This time, the filter was clean, so I searched the internet and found this page.
Once I de-attached the pump, I found a sock sticking out of the hole in the washing machine.
I had a few problems attaching the thingy clip again, around the tube - since it takes alot of hand powers, but a set of plyers did the trick!

So for the females, we can do it too! ;)

Regars from Sussi in Denmark :)

We have an AWO9513 with the same problem - the filter is clear. One question, can I lay the machine on its side to check the hose - I don't fancy holding it at 45deg while I work underneath it...

Matthew Harrison, July 2010
Thank you for the tip...i had the same problem on mine, there was all gunk n fluff all in the pipe...started to get worried in case i had to buy a new washing machine...

Fantastic!

A rogue sock, removed & now running beautifully again.
Power of the internet.
Thanks to all for your advice!

Similar problem with FP error code... I did the same way as described below, removed thick black tube from the drum and on the outlet was 2 little socks - stinking and little burned from heater.
I suppose it was also reason of the strange smelling from the drum during opening the door.
Thank you all!
Greetings from Poland!

Whirlpool AWO 3581 FP error code

We did as suggested, tilted machine on 45 degree angle, removed the black pipe from the clip and found a 50 cent coin blocking, removed it and machine now works fine, thanks guys, saved us alot of hassle

This advice really helped me with my whirpool that kept giving the FP (Faulty Pump?) message. I opened up the pump filter cleaned it out and checked water could get from the pump to the drains, everything seemed fine but the error message kept coming back. I then noticed there was still loads of water in the washing machine and took your advice and unplugged it and tilted it 45degrees to get underneath where I took off the metal clip holding on the thick black tubing onto the drum and caught all the water in bowl and there it was a kids sock!!! So if you get FP message and you remove the filter for the pump also pour some water into the drum and check it comes out the bottom if not it's blocked before the filter. Thank you all very much

I had a similiar problem, code FP kept on flashing up, I could hear the pump working fine - every time I used the drain or spin cycle - But the clothes came out dripping, after every wash. I eventually found a thin metal piece, which was stuck near the filter compartment obtructing the flow. Always check the filter first before you replace the pump.

My machine did this, try this i did and it worked:

Drain as much water out as possible, tip the machine to 45 deg to one side under the drum there is a black ribbed elbow pipe leading to the pump, disconect it and check for obstructions, mine had a sock stuck in the hole. if not try the pipe from the pump. good luck

I had the same "FP" code on our AWM8022. I opened the flap on the front lower right side and unscrewed the cap. It wouldn't come out easily although after a bit of force it came out and I found some hair klips and fluff blocking the pump inlet. Problem solved.

GaryC Norway, March 2009
Yes error code fp has to do with blocked outlet in some way or faulty pump.
In my case i could not find any blocking in the filter so i remowed the front cover for the maskine AWM 8123 (3 screws behind the lower front plastic cover) Now i easily cold remove the pump to check the inlet and output hoses.
But nothing was found.. then i interested me for the pump that is selling as a replace unit.
When i took it apart.. the white plastic from the black i realize that when i pull the impeller in the enginepump part.. there is an area inside with washwater to... that is cooling the pump.. that hidden area in the engine part was full of sand and other debreze that caused malfunction to the pump.
Cleaning.. some oil in the bottom... put all stuff together again and voaila... works perfect!

I think you are right about FP being a pump fault. I have been having the same probs with our Whirlpool AWO 3761/5. After reading your piece on a sock being stuck, I was brave enough to turn our machine over and disconnect the outlet pipe between the drum and pump to find a pair of my mrs' knickers!! Alas, problem solved!! Thanks!!

Daniel Lawson, March 2007
My machine kept flashing this message then after a few more uses it failed to complete any cycle
upon investigation I discovered that the drain pipe was completely blocked with flur and stuff at the point where it went into the waste pipe where there is a non return valve (simple plastic flange on a spring) so I assume that the FP stands for:-
1. 'filter'(blocked)
2.'Pump' (faulty)
3.(kinked) 'Pipe' as all of thes would prevent the machine from adequately emptying, interupt the cycle and register a fault.

Hope this helps and that your prob is only either 1 or 3

regards
Martin
