Replacing the power cable for a Dyson DCO3 Standard Upright?

I need to change the power lead to my Dyson DCO3 and I need to know how you detach it from the main on and off switch assembly as there does not appear to be a way in to this area. As a result of extensive use the power lead has developed a short as it enters the machine on the top and is sparking when I use it. I can order the replacement lead from Dyson direct but I need to mknow how to get into the machine to carry out the task

Have had the same problem for six months. Dyson themselves will only allow trained service staff to have the "open sesame" to the area you need to access. At £50+ for the call out, it seems a very expensive way to replace, or trim and refix a power lead. I have done the more dangerous trim and twist and insulate with tape close to the cable outlet, but it gets in the way of emptying detachment and power button.
