Is the Heat Exchanger at Fault?

I have a Vokera Option Boiler
A Engineer told me that the hot water circuit was leaking into the CH system raising the pressure and blowing the Pressure relief valve. I thought that these were two seperate circuits how can this be?

Just to confirm this is what happened to my boiler, and it was the heat exchanger. But after changing it the boiler won't stay on it seems to trip out at the start up. If it will get pasty the start up it will sometimes run for some time but then trip out again later. Some times with the pressure light lit sometimes without. Any help?

the central heating water runs through the heat exchanger to heat the cold water there for giving hot water to the taps .if the exchanger leaks between the two it will pass mains water into the heating side raising pressure.
