I have the same problem but the motor will not turn at all. I have had the motor out, the PCB and the pressure switch, and installed a new timer switch £184 (!!), but still no agitate or spin. Everything else works... so really hope it is the capacitor- but it looks OK, no hole in the side. So hope to get another and see if it works - Mine W698 is only 17 years old...(Sunday)... Richard

Is the motor run capacitor OK?. (typically an aluminium tube 4 inches by 1 3/4 inches diameter, 60uF or so.) These often blow an internal fuse, they can also blow a hole in their side wall when they go, or push out an expansion plug to vent. The motor may still make an anaemic effort to turn. The capacitor is probably clipped to the chasis rather than the motor. (Assuming the machines old enough to have that sort of motor, with the wash motor on the same spindle as the carbon brush spin motor (might be worth checking the brushes are OK and moving smoothly in their holder while you are at it).
