I have a red wine colored sofa that has a gash , or tear behind the back side pillow and its not noticeable but I hate to let it get bigger with time, its maybe about the size of you point finger, what is the best way to fix it with out spending a lot of money?

Unfortunately anything over a 1" rip is almost impossible to repair. You can have someone replace the whole panel with a new piece of leather which will run you in the neighborhood of $200-$500. If the rip is in an area that is not noticeable, i would recommend just closing it with super-glue and put that money towards a new sofa.
