how to seperate antique glassware that's been glued togeather?

I purchased an antique butterdish, it was on a pedistal after checking it closer. the base to the butter dish was glued to an antique candle holder. The glue has turned yellow and has some air bubbles in it. There is one part that looks like it has a very small area between the two pieces that is not glued well.

you can get acetone from the local hardware- that's my first port of call when I get this kind of glue problem...

If the glue is yellow it is probably Araldite, but whatever glue it is, you need a solvent that will soften it. You could try nail varnish remover to see if that will work. Not an easy problem to solve, not knowing the glue that is used.
