Zanussi aquacycle 1200 does hot washes even when set to cold?

my zanussi aquacycle seems to be using hot water even when set to do a cold wash. the clothes all come out hot and it's not spinning properly. also, the section next to where you put the powder is full of water. what's the probelm?
