why doesnt cd read some disc?

i have a favorite CD that was playing in my CD player. when i changed batteries, the CD would give an error message of
"no disc". The cd works in all my other players except this one. How can this problem be solved?
thank you,

Did you replace with the same type of batteries? Maybe 1.2V instead of 1.5V? Do other CD's play or not? Is the one that won't play a copy or an original?

(I'm guessing that the player's laser now does not have the power to read the CD as before, so I suspect the wrong type of battery).

Cheers.
