securing metal socket boxes?

do i have to secure a metal socket box into the wall with a masonry nail or will plaster be enough ?
ann, January 2007
do sockets have to be set into the wall or can they mounted on the wall ?

i think , for a while , a brass screw was regulation for a while , but plaster will hold it ok , but a screw or even two, will hold it steady while plaster is being added and setting.

screw through the back

plaster will normally hold a backbox ok, mix the plaster to the constituancy of double cream, spread a good thickness on the back of the box and press into place.
