My Technics CH550 amp keeps cutting out at loundish volume (-22 db)?

Technics SA CH550 amp keeps cutting out at loundish volume (-24 db) when it does cut out something similar to --- ---- ---
apears on the screen for 2 to 3 seconds. I have had the system around 13 years and its been doing this for the last 2. When I use the DAT input (which puts out through the amp at lower volumes) it still cuts out at -24db.

Could anyone please help?

Quite a common fault, I've had this several times with this and some other Technics models.

It's almost always due to faulty fan motor. This can be verified by measuring the resistance across it. (Should read between 20 and 30 ohms).

Only the original fan type should be fitted.
There are a few other checks an engineer will make.
Cost should be around £50-£60.

Could this be due to thermal shut down of power amp ?
Make sure top and rear air grilles are not restricting air flow through the unit.
