panasonic portable dvd player won't turn on?

My panasonic lv60 portable dvd player won't turn on. When it is plugged in through the ac adaptor or running on the battery it shows a red light meaning power is supplied, but when I try to turn it on(by holding down the "on" button) the red light flashes and the word "hold" comes up in the display window. When I release the "on" button the flashing stops and "hold" disappears from the display window. It does not power up. When I push any other button while power is supplied, it also flashes the red light and displays "hold " in the display window.
Thanks for any info,
Nicholas.

Have you checked if the HOLD switch is turned ON?
It's on the right side of the unit (to the side of the main controls.)

Other causes of red LED flashing.. LINE IN turned ON, this should be OFF when playing discs.

Instructions for Factory Reset are posted below if required.

Seems it's not possible to post certain text characters here.
The below should read...

When the unit is stopped, press and hold "PAUSE", "SKIP BACKWARDS" and "PLAY" on the main unit for about 3 seconds until the message "Initialized" disappears from the screen, then turn the unit off.
