Sanyo VHR - D500E video recorder?

I have a 'Sanyo VHR - D500E' vhs video recorder and every time i tried to press the stop button to stop the tape the recorder made a funny noise and i had to stop and start it a few times before i was actually able to eject the tape.
Now the recorder won't accept a video tape because th mechanics of the moving parts that take the cassette in and bring it out has somehow stopped. I can still use the recorder to control my tv.As for playing tapes its not working. It's something mechanical. When i press the play or rewind buttons etc. they work but then stop.It sounds like something has snapped or given way because the electronics are ok.
What shall I do? Can it be repaired?

Hi
It sounds as though one or two of the belts have stretched or broken.
I purchased one in this order and bought a service kit which includes new idlers/belts and the like and fitted them ( i used to assemble Sanyo's vcr's so have a lot of experience Beta models included) it's perfect in every way now.
Good luck................Kevin(UK)

the mech is out of timing, probably bad mode switch or plastic gears . a tech can usually sort this out.
