Potterton Profile 60e - fan stops and starts - pilot won't light?

Hi,

When I switch the boiler on the fan runs for a couple of seconds, then stops for a couple of seconds, then runs again and so on. The pilot doesn't light and the boiler never fires up.

When I switch it on with the front cover removed the fan runs continuously. Does it sound like the pressure switch is faulty? The fan is new by the way, I've just replaced it.

The fan has been doing this on/off thing for a few weeks but up to a couple of days ago the boiler did eventually light.

Thanks in anticipation!

Thanks for your help guys - it was the pcb in the end. Got a brand new one at a great price on ebay.

Cheers,

Bob.

Had same fault on a 50e, changed pcb (£117) as this had obvious soldered joint damage and signs of overheating. Still wouldn't run so changed pressure switch (£40) All now ok. If you cant see any signs of overheating on the pcb then it's obviously cheaper to change the pressure switch first. Mine seemed ok, when I sucked on the tubes I could hear the microswitch operating but these switches work at millibars so you can't really prove anything by sucking unless you have specialist equipment and you know what the correct operating pressure should be.

Check the case seals are sealing; it won't fire else

i had this problem before the fan would go on / off about 5 times then light. when we removed bottom panel it would sometimes light, but if it didn't we tapped the pcb board and it would light.
we changed pcb all ok.
but check yor wire connection and air pipes to pressure switch first. as you have changed fan you may have a loose connection.
pcbs for these boilers are not to steep in price and easy to fit.
