How to fix my 25" Magnavox, Model: RS2566 B101, Make:1993?

The coil around the picture tube is making a louder than normal buzzing sound. How can I make it stop?

Also, see reply to question below.

You will get a some noise from the scan coils surrounding the tube neck. The wire in the coils vibrates to some degree at operating frequency used by the TV. It shouldn't be so loud that it's easily apparent. You certainly shouldn't notice it with the TV at a reasonable viewing distance and normal volume level. During manufacture the spaces around these coils are filled & coated with sealant to secure them and to minimise this vibration. Sometimes it drys out, cracks and fails or didn't take correctly during manufacture. It can be very annoying. I don't know the age of this model but if it's under warranty you need to report it, as the coils are an integral part of the picture tube. Sometimes it's possible for an engineer to inject fresh silicone sealant (a type with very specific electrical characteristics, btw, designed for high voltage TV applications). Personally, I never found this very sucessful and it usually requires replacement on the picture tube. If it's very bad and just out of warranty, I would contact your dealer or the manufacturers Customer Support line and ask if they will help. It occurs because the vertical scan frequency is within audible range and you hear the vibration of the unsecure coils. Expect some noise from your TV if you listen closely but if it's so bad it's disturbing your viewing, it's probably because the scan coil windings are insufficiently sealed.
