Whirlpool washer stops during various cycles?

My Whirlpool Heavy Duty Super capacity plus washing machine, model LSR 7233 DQO, just stops during any cycle of the wash. I have to restart it and set the dial where it was and it completes the wash. It doesn't happen every time, but quite often. What could be the problem?

At the end of the spin cyle in my LSR7233 whirlpool washing machine it makes a loud knock and the tub seems to jump. Can you tell me what it is?

My washer is doing just the same. Its not the plug and I've had a new timer. Engineer suggests we try a new motor next.

This sounds like it might be incredibly simplistic, but make sure the plug is all the way in the wall, and you may even try squeezing the prongs together slightly, making for a better connection in the outlet. If the power gets interrupted mid-cycle, as in the case of a loose plug, it could, the whole cycle stops. This is to prevent accidental restarts should the power go out, and you start pulling items out of it, etc.
If the above doesn't work, it may be the timer or the brain itself, both of which can get costly.
