washer won't drain?

I have a 6 year old maytag washer model number Pav2300AWW that won't drain.
I have removed and checked all the hoses and they are clear. I have removed the v belt and when I turn the pump by hand it makes a grinding noise. Is this normal?

hello i had the same thing just the other day...i emptied and cleaned my filter...now i ts drains perfectly!
