Macromedia Flash Animation makes my browsing jerky. Why?

My browsing has recently become very jerky. I'm using Macromedia's Flash Player 7 Plugin. If I navigate to a page which contains a flash anim my whole system will stall briefly every few seconds.

If I uninstall Macromedia's plugin (I know I have done this properly because I have used Macromedia's utility and followed the manual method also) my browing becomes smooth. If I re-install the plugin the jerkyness returns.

What can I do to fix this?

Are you sure that it is just Flash Animations that are causing the problem? One of the most simple ways of testing if your PC is jerky whilst other programs are being used is to play an mp3 file (if you have one.) If this stutters while playing back then note which operations cause the stuttering to occur.
