Can I replace radio Head Unit with after market head unit?

Jeep Grand Cherokee 1998 with Infinity Gold System. I just want to upgrade to a newer Head Unit (after market). Are there any special considerations for doing this? Can I just go to Best Buy, etc and get one of the latest Head Units and swap it for the Infinity unit in there now?

The Infinity Gold Package came with somewhat poor power handling speakers. They are basically Chrysler speakers. You will have to probably purchase 4, six and a half inch speakers that will handle around 50 watts RMS each, one for each door. You will also need a Jeep wiring harness, and a "DIN an a half" stereo fit-kit. I just did mine and its great, but it cost about a thousand dollars CDN.
