When I try to either record or playback tapes the tape runs for a few seconds then stops / shuts down the power light flashes and camera won't do anything until turn power off then back on
tape is chewed up when I remove - I have tried a brand new tape to same effect

I went on another web site and someone had removed the bottom plate of the camera and made sure the ribbon cables are plugged in securely, apparently they can become loose (my baby threw mine on the floor). replace the plate and it should work, it did for us, good luck.
