Should I replace or try to find a repair?

My Indesit Evolution 1600 we16 is 4 years old. It suddenly developed a very nasty-sounding problem which occurs on the spin program as it passes about 300 rpm. It sounds as if there is a piece of loose rubble in the drum.

Given its age (and the fact that an insurance policy for repairs recently expired!) should I even think about asking someone to repair the machine or bite the bullet and get a new machine?

I do not regard myself as a competent person to do any repairs myself apart from changing a fuse!

Any thoughts welcome... RG
