my agitator in the washing machine does not work. why not? KENMORE?

I have a kenmore washing machine that is about 15 years old in great condition, the other day went to do my laundry ,put my clothes in filled it water, soap etc. pushed start and it went thru all the motions and the only thing that didntwork was the agitator.why not?

When water reaches correct level the pressure activates a switch to tell machine to procede. First take off back panel ( beware LIVE) and operate . See if motor spins and is drive belt slipping or perhaps broken. If all appears ok then probably the progreammer/timer faulty.

i recently had work done on my Kenmore and the repair guy noticed the agitator barely turning. He was able to replace the as he called them "dogs". (parts and labor $20 which he had in his truck.) It took about 5 minutes and now it spins and agitates vigerously.
