Try www.bobsroswellvacuum.com they've got a DIY kit that comes with everything you need to replace the clutch in your DC04, DC07 or DC14 including a handy tool to get your roller brush back into position. I think it runs about $75 bucks.

The belts on a Dyson 04 I dont think were ever designed to be replaced by the man in the street but with patience an basic skills it can be done. It is advised to replace both belts at the same time.
Special Tools required:
1 Long bladed T15 screwdriver
1 T10 screwdriver
and an external circlip pliers.
1 Remove sole plate assembly
2 Remove brush
3 Remove Brush housing assembly this is a little tricky with machine upside down and motor towards you tilt the brush housing assembly towards you gently pull out from side furthest from clutch and then the other side. Disconnect from pipe.
4 Using T15 screwdriver remove 3 screws from clutch cover 1 can only be found by positioning head of cleaner in upright position and sliding screwdriver thro hole in motor cover.
5 Prize off yellow control knob and then with a bit of gentle persuasion the clutch will come out.
6 Remove 2 T10 screws from metal end cover which will give access to primary drive belt.
7 Using circlip pliers remove circlip from drive shaft at other end and pull out drive shaft gentle feeding final drive belt off.
Rebuild is a reversal of the strip down.
Hope this helps.

best way to fix a dyson is to hit it with a sludge hammer and then go and buy a new consumers report top rated vacuum for $139 that allows you to easily change the belt yourself and has no clutch to break. Dyson dealer wanted $170 to replace my clutch.

there are 2 belts on 04 model 1 is narrow 1is wider, the narrow one can be replaced quite easily, but it is the other belt that causes problem this belt stretches quite easily and will not turn roller if you have clutch out, check pulley that the wide belt goes around if any damage to pulley you must replace clutch, some dealers are selling this wide belt ( not gen dyson) I do not think this belt can be bought from dyson. if there is a loud clicky noise when vac is running, this clutch will have to be replaced also check, there is no damage to brush roller, as this can clutch to wear out. clutch is £22 feel free to e-mail jonsemple@talktalk.net

its easier if you swap it,but more expensive.you can swap the belt if you strip down the clutch, but in either case, the fun part is getting it out.you will need a t15 screwdriver to start with...
