Sony rdr-hx715 DVD recorder flashes welcome, then recovery?

My Sony rdr-hx715 suddenly stopped working and now the word 'welcome' appears, stays on awhile, then 'recovery' flashes a few times, along with the HDD starting up a few seconds, then goes back to 'welcome'. I've tried holding down power button, etc. but it never recovers--just seems to want to. Any ideas?

Did any of you find what was the problem with your RDR?... I am having same problems and want to know if I throw the machine or if it can be saved

Not an answer, but the same question. My Sony RDR-HX715 is doing the same thing. Waiting for it to complete the recovery process didn't work, it never completes. Unplugging it for a minute also didn't work. Leaving it unplugged for 24 hours as someone suggested (like it was a static discharge issue) also had no effect. Still says Welcome for awhile, then the fan comes on for a second or two, then back to Welcome. It quit flashing recovery for some reason. No buttons respond.

I have similar problem...same unit...unplugged for a day...still flashes welcome then recovery and back again . Keeps cycling like that. Held power button for 10 or more seconds.Nothing. Little...actually a LOT...frustrating.

This has happened on two occasions with my 17 months old Sony RDR - HXD 710. The second time yesterday. The machine froze so I couldn't use the handset (new batteries were inserted recently) or switch off the machine itself. So I had to switch off the power, unplug, wait 10 seconds before plugging in and switching on. The "WELCOME" sign starts flashing and after a few minutes "RECOVERY" flashes. Wait until this last process finishes and if like mine, hey presto it works again! Seems to be like a computer - it gets a little tired working and has to be re-booted! Hope this works for you.
