Vauxhall Cavalier 92: orange light (engine shape with electric bolt) blinks?

Please help. I've just bought a 92K Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0. Goes really well, but theres an orange light on the dash shaped like an engline/fan with an electric bolt shape in the middle. It blinks on at high speeds (90mph plus). The car was a bargain and I'm worried this is the reason for it. Can anyone help me if I promise not to drive at 90mph!

the same happend to me 95 hatch back i got to 110 in it and tht light started to come on and off so i stopped and opened the bonnet and just wriggled the lead in the ecu and carried on driving and to this date i have hasd thecar to 130 and the light has not come on so....

easy, simply remove the bulb as the engine management light is useless anyway.

If your car has a catalytic converter (all cavaliers from oct 1992) then the most likely problem is the lamda sensor fitted to your exhaust system. This costs over £100 from vauxhall but a universal one from euro car parts is about £35. You will need to change this before your MOT expires as your car will give out higher emissions if the lambda sensor is faulty. If you have an earlier model cavalier and your emissions are ok, it'll probably be a camshaft sensor or something like that. Not really worth spending the money to resolve if the engine is running well enough.
