How Can I Fix a Crack in a Marble Table?

I have a dining room table with a solid marble top. Well it was solid. Upon moving, the top cracked all the way across and through. Is there any way to repair it?

This is not a bad problem but does need to be handled by a competent repairman or it will get worse. At Master Furniture Service, Inc. we would remove the broken section, bring it into the shop and depending on the color and type of marble we would glue it with an epoxy that would be colored to match the color of the marble. Then the top would be dressed (polished) and the original sheen restored. I have restored marble that was broken into multiple pieces and though I can't say that the repairs were invisible most people wouldn't be able to tell that the piece had been repaired. In addition the repair is permanent.

My mothers family worked in tile and marble for many years. She told me a story once about a specific order they recieved and were using to tile a storefront with marble just after WWII. There was one piece right in the front of the building that was too short to fill the gap. Their marble/tile setter was very talented. He broke the piece, spread it out to size, then filled the gaps with a hardening putty and polished it down. The result looked like a vein in the marble which is usually full of veins. Perhaps a thin vein of a compatible color could be added. I don't know what material he used was or how the back of the piece was reinforced. A marble company may be able to help.

Hey, I am having the same problem. What did you end up doing?

Repairing a tabletop like that is not really feasible. You could cover the whole top with a sheet of glass.
