I just spend 4 hours uninstalling, editing the registry, and reinstalling. multiple times. It was the twain_32.dll for me. I copied it to c:\windows like Pablo and finally! My scanner is working again! Thanks Pablo!

I have an epson scanner gt 1500 workforce. it is not turning on. I am in kenya and it is plugged into a high powered adapter. I bought the scanners in the US. I have tried transferring locations and using different adapters. What could be the problem?

Kaitlyn Vinson, May 2011
Brian, I own a DX6050, scanner was gubbed but printer worked and had tried (almost) everything. Your fix worked immediately. The culprit was a BMP file.
Will you have my babies? Oh, then again, I'm 61 and male. Just accept my unreserved thx then. One note for Vista owners like me; the relevant folder was called 'appdata' but it was invisible in my [username] folder. I had to find it via the Start->Search facility and click it from there. THX AGAIN!!!!

SOLUTION (Try this)

Hi. Yesterday I´ve bought an EPSON Stylus TX220 (multifunction: print/scan/copy). It prints very well but when I wanted to scan, I only could do it from Control Panel / Scanners & Cameras / double click in the Epson Scanner Icon. It loaded the Scanning Wizzard. I did could scan, but I couldn´t do it from the EPSON Scan desktop icon neither the EPSON Scan icon at the Epson group from Start / All Programs because the following error message was shown (approximately):

"Needed files not found. Please re-install the software".

(in Spanish: "No se encuentran los archivos necesarios. Por favor, reinstale el software").

I´ve found at the windows folders a log file called "scantwain.txt" where refers the ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Sprint program and shows the following error message:

====== MESSAGE ======
Message Title: ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Sprint
Message Text : Ningún módulo TWAIN:
C:\WINDOWS\Twain_32.dll
=====================

Message Answer : IDOK
=====================

TWAIN: Twain_32.dll NOT loaded!!!
LOGGING stopped at: 06-10-2010, 01:22:48
----------------------------------------------Logging completed successfully!

It means the Epson Scan program can´t load the twain_32.dll file from the C:\Windows folder (because the twain_32.dll file isn´t in that folder).

I´ve searched the "twain" files with "Search" Windows utility and when they were found, I COPIED the "twain_32.dll" from the C:\Windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$ folder to the C:\Windows folder (in my particular case).

Then I went to Start / All Programs / EPSON / Epson Scan / clicked the Epson Scan icon and the EPSON Scan Utility was loaded successfully, and I DID could scan without problem. It worked fine too from the EPSON Scan desktop icon.

Hello, Brian:
It has been two days and I am not doing well, I have a epson CX7800 all-in-one; it wont scan still prints though... looked into the ES005B folder and there is no images in it.
the epson ppl told me to use the program paint to operate the scanning function, which does work, but it is a pain.
i tried uninstalling and re-installing, but no difference -- still prints, wont scan and the epson scan icon did not return with the re-install.
Is this fixable this time? It had happened before, but the solution was to delete an old scanned image that the pc kept for months and months (no idea why and I cannot remember where it was).
Your help would be very much appreciated

John S, it's not a link it's a file on your computer. Go to your hard drive (C:) then Document and Settings, etc.

I have been scanning and uploading an archive of cryptozoology related material for almost a year and this issue was just driving me up the wall, I couldn't figure out what was wrong and thought it was just that my scanner was made in the days before vista and epsom hadn't updated the driver properly. But this solved the problem, if you're still around thanks Brian.

On vista the file is located in a slightly different place user/AppData/roaming/Epson/ESCNDV/ESxxxx (xxxx is whatever numbers epson uses for your scanner). hope that is helpful to anyone who is trying to fix this on Vista.

Brian! MANY THANKS!

Michael, December 2009
Yes, Brian's answer worked for me as well. No idea why but does that matter? Certainly not to me. Many thanks.

Ken W, August 2009
Brians answer worked for me too!
Deleted images from C:\Program Files\EPSON\escndv\es006c in my case and that worked!

BRIAN YOU STAR, I've spent hours trying to uninstall, reinstall, restore to a previous setting and it all failed. Kept googling and trying to find an answer. Eventually saw yours and hey presto, it worked. Cool thanks!!!

RaniB, May 2009

Leonhard, December 2008
Thank you Brian. You're a genius. I wish I had come here before I downloaded a new driver, etc. Epson should be ashamed.

Wendy, December 2008
Brian you're my new best friend, thank you so much.

Jacqui, October 2008
Excellent solution. Worked flawlessly. To bad I took the time to try a reinstallation first. Thanks.

wbda, October 2008
MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better solution than http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-2046324.php or what Epson tries to tell you to do. Been messing with this for 3 1/2 hours. THANKS!

Don, October 2008
Top Man Brian, worked for me. Sooo many thanks!!

Ralph, September 2008

OH MY GOD!
I have had this issue for ever.
Others have suggested a list of solutions.

IN LESS THAN 30 seconds Brian's solution worked!!!!
THANKS...

VictorLion, June 2008
Brian's solution worked great. Took me about 30 seconds after two hours of reloading software etc.

The image file I had was a .bmp file.

Patrick, June 2008
Thank you brian. This issue suddenly popped up on me like so many others. The other solution I find was to remove all the scanner software, then search for a bunch of files to delete, and reinstall everything....Glad I found this before I went through all that trouble!!
Thanks!

Kayayem, May 2008
I spent many hours looking for solutions. Brian's worked for me. Thank you very much.

Javier, March 2008
Hi, I have the same problem: my Epson all in 1 prints but does not scan. I am getting the error report: appname: escndv.exe
appVer: 2.7.0.1 ModNamw: esui.ll etc. Am also getting a somewhat similar error when I try to Import through adobe Photo Shop. I attempted to do the fix in this thread that Brian suggested however I cannot find the file in his fix. Any other ideas?

Thomas C. Smith, February 2008
Well Brian, you are a star, deleted the image and thumbnail files and it sorted it straight away. thank you very much

Clive, January 2008
Brian! thanks very much! it worked for me too!!
Epson Scan developers should be ashamed!!

Fred, December 2007
Thanks you Brian! The trick worked for me too.

Thank you Brian! This issue has plagued me for months. I have been going through this complicated procedure I found on another site, supposedly from Epson Support....This time I decided to search for another answer and your solution worked great!

ububba, May 2007
Thanks! This solution also worked to resolve an issue with Adobe not being able to import (scan). Prior to doing this, we had reinstalled Adobe and the Epson scanner and drivers without any resolution. Removing the broken file completely solved the problem. Thank you thank you thank you!

Susan, April 2007
I had this same problem yesterday and did some research. Turned out to be a broken preview image file which crashes the program. Go here: C:\Document
s and Settings\[username]\Application Data\EPSON\ESCNDV\ES0058

and delete any image files in that folder. The last folder might have a different number depending on your printer.
