How do i make my mic clear?

I have a Koss M/20 microphone...
I have windows XP and Windows 98.
when i use Sound Recorder on windows 98 and talk to record things the sound records very low and it sounds so blurry, but when i use it on Windows XP it works perfectly fine but how do i make it work perfectly fine on my windows 98?

You checked the audio properties in '98 and made sure mic volume was all the way up and that "mic boost" was on, right? (My only idea)

i wouldnt bother using sound recorder for anything, i recomend a prgram called sound forge, u can get the latest version from http://katz.ws .

what u using sound driver are u using through 98, cuase they might be a conflict through the versions.

i recomend staying with xp and keeping the recording low u can always turn it up.

and i dont think the mic matters much unless the wireing is dodgy in which case rewire it or get a new one.
