chain oiler on Husqvarna 359?

I took the clutch drum and oiler cover off my Husqvarna 359 EPA saw to find why it leaked constantly. After reassembly I discovered a "leftover" part; a 3/4" square sponge (oil soaked). Can you tell me where it came from?

It goes over the oiler pump. It's meant to stop the pump from leaking. It doesn't work. [kinda like this site.]
