Hoover Performa Eco 1300 electrical problem?

I have a problem with my Hoover washer the on/off switch would not work and the light was on all the time so I used to switch it off by the plug one day i was using the washer and it just stopped and the power light went off and the machine will not work at all any suggestions? (apart from the tip)

You may have solved your switching problem by now so sorry if this is late.
If your machine has a UK type plug, irrespective of your location, then the plug itself has a replaceable fuse.
Constant surges caused by you bypassing the on/off switch stress this fuse over time and it may have blown.
To check, unscrew the screw near the earth (ground) pin and replace the fuse with one of the same rating as your mains supply limit allows (eg. the original fuse rating for UK is 13 Amp but it should not exceed 10 Amp for Australia)
